KECD (Korea Ensemble of Contemporary Design) is Korea’s main institution for the advancement of designs, with the goal of serving the society with design and taking part in its development. Among its array of programs, KECD organized International Poster Exhibition annually. For its 2017 event, KECD’s International Poster Exhibition took the theme of “The Beauty of Asia”. It showcased 296 works from 10 Asian countries and we have the honor of participating along with 8 other Indonesian contributors.
To us, the beauty of Asia lies in its cultures. Our civilization is so diverse that traces of their brilliance can be seen in all aspects of our daily life, writing systems being a part of it. We decided to use different letter A’s from Asia, as it is an integral part of every language. Our work is a mark of the present because when it comes to the ever-changing means of human communication, what the future holds might be very different from what we know today.
The strokes of our poster are made uneven to emulate the look of pen strokes juxtaposed with sans serif types, merging our common legacies with modernism.
The exhibition is sponsored by Daegu Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB), Daegu Gyeongbuk Design Center (DGDC), Asia Communication Design Alliance (ACDA) and Daegu Gyeongbuk Design Center. It features the works of designers from Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Philippine, and Iran.
